The Easter break means something different to all of us – an occasion to catch up with friends and family, a chance to get out and enjoy some sunshine (finally!) or simply some me time to lounge around at home and devour our own body weight in chocolate.
Whatever your plans may be, why not make it the season you start your vegan journey with Veganuary?! You can enjoy all of the above pleasures whilst not contributing to animal cruelty or compromising on your own health. Bye, bye leg of lamb and dairy-loaded Easter cakes.

- New vegan options and spring menus
This season there are new, vibrant and delicious plant-powered dishes popping up everywhere. Here are just a few in the UK that are widely available and are more importantly, tantalising our taste buds right now.
The Real Greek launched an extensive vegan menu across its 15 UK branches this month including Moussaka, Jackfruit Stifado and Plum, Almond and Pistachio Cake. Find your nearest and gather your loved ones!
Pub chain, Vintage Inns introduced a vegan menu across its 189 branches this year, which includes a soup of the day, coconut vegetable curry, spiced chickpea, aubergine & spinach burger and FOUR puddings no less! Check out the huge and varied menu below.
Vegan fave’s Zizzi have not only introduced a new Smoky Chilli Pizza Dough that they have confirmed is SVF, but also a Vegan ‘Beetball’ Polpette especially for spring.
Yes it’s a steak house, but Beefeater have kept their limited edition Vegan Burger with BBQ Soya and added a Heritage Style Tomato Salad to its sides and a new Apple Crisp to accompany a Costa coffee or tea.
- Vegan Easter eggs
Going vegan this Easter doesn’t mean you have to miss out on a chocolatey treat…or twenty! The likes of Hotel Chocolat, Moo Free, Green & Blacks and Montezuma have all got cracking dairy-free treats including Easter eggs, truffles and chocolate bunnies.
Not to mention the fantastic array of free-from delights that the big supermarkets are offering. Tesco have their own Finest Salted Caramel Flavoured Egg whilst ASDA sells a Belgian Dark Chocolate Easter Egg with Vanilla Flavoured Truffles and Morrisons have an exclusive Moo Free Caramelised Hazelnut Nibs Egg. - Feeling great and healthy in time for Summer
As well as enjoying a little indulgence, it’s the perfect time to start thinking about making healthier choices. You can use the opportunity to go vegan not only for the animals, but also for yourself.
There are many health benefits to a plant-based diet including lower blood pressure, weight loss, lower cholesterol and reducing the chances of developing type 2 diabetes. A huge 66% of Veganuary participants this January that were surveyed, reported an increase in their overall health.

With so many amazing vegan cookbooks and recipes out this Spring, there’s no better time to don that apron and whip up an amazing Easter feast for the family. Here are some exciting new and upcoming releases that we’ll be flicking through:

Katy Beskow or Little Miss Meat Free and her 15 Minute Vegan book was a revelation in easy but super tasty food. And now she’s blowing our minds with a new cookbook dedicated to my favourite topic, comfort food!
- New-born chicks
OK, let’s get serious for a minute. Easter is supposed to be about celebrating new life, and yet many people are still unaware of the horrors of the egg industry and the unnecessary deaths of millions of chicks every year.
Male chicks will not lay eggs and therefore are considered useless to the industry. They are killed almost immediately after birth by being gassed, but in some countries they are thrown into macerating machines.
This happens to chicks regardless of whether you buy free range or from a battery farm. So by going vegan, you’ll stop paying for this ghastly practice to happen!
