“Veganuary’ wants to be your new food resolution for 2020 — and beyond.”
“Veganuary, which asks people to ditch meat this month, has emerged as this year’s trendy resolution.”
“Retailers report huge demand for plant-based takeaway foods amid record Veganuary”
“The soaring popularity of Veganuary has led to a raft of shortages of the UK’s biggest plant-based brands.”
“Veganuary “clearly affected” consumer behaviour…more than twice as many people purchased a product labelled “plant-based” from a supermarket in January 2020 than in December 2019.”
Since we launched our pledge in January 2014 the number of people taking part has risen dramatically year on year. Over 400,000 people took part in January 2020, citing the following reasons as their motivation.
Actor
“If you look at the climate crisis or the violence of our food system and feel helpless, thinking ‘I wish there was something I could do’- you can. Right now. Sign up to try vegan this January.”
Comedian
“I decided that I was going to do 100 days being vegan, and I was going to write it up and see how I felt. But within a week I felt so much better in my body that it then became ‘oh I am definitely going to do this forever.’ My digestion immediately improved, and that thing where you feel a little bit glowy, where people say you look well, and you say ‘well actually, I’m vegan.”
Musician
“I’ve been vegetarian for over 40 years and have stayed with it because I believe that every meat-free meal is a win for animals and the planet. This is why I started Meat Free Monday with my daughters Mary and Stella, and it’s also why I support Veganuary. We’re all trying to make the world a bit better, so why not sign up, take part, give it a go, and see how you feel? It could be the best thing you ever did.”
Wildlife TV Presenter
“As I’ve become more and more aware of our impact, the impact our diet has on the environment – and of course the species that live in it – I’ve become increasingly concerned to minimise the negative aspects of that impact.”
Actor
“I’ve loved Veganuary’s work for a long time because I know, having been a vegetarian who was intimidated by veganism, that so many people just won’t start because they think it’s too hard and that they’re going to fail. And Veganuary presents you an opportunity to do it with other people, with a community, and it’s not saying it’s a lifelong commitment, it’s saying ‘try it for a month and see how you feel’.”
Veganuary is the world’s largest vegan movement, inspiring people to try vegan for January and throughout the rest of the year.
