Jud was rescued from a caged life on a factory farm. Like millions of other ‘layer’ hens, she had never breathed fresh air, stretched her wings, or experienced life as a mother. This all changed when she found her new home at Gaia Sanctuary.
For the first time Jud was able to watch her chicks hatch. And like most mothers, she is often seen rushing around to meet the crying demands of her young. Whether she’s pecking and scratching to find food for them or offering them protection and warmth under her wings, Jud seems constantly on the go.
When Titeuf arrived, a recently orphaned chick, it wasn’t long before he too found comfort under Jud’s wing.
Even though Jud’s chicks are now fully grown, that hasn’t stopped them wanting to hang out with her. From dust bathing in the day time to cuddling up together on an evening, these grown-up chickens know they’ve got a mum in a million!
