Over 2,000 pigs have suffocated to death in the extreme heat on a factory farm in The Netherlands, after the ventilation system failed.
As reported by DutchNews.NL over 2,000 pigs have suffocated to death in the extreme heat on a factory farm in The Netherlands, after the ventilation system failed. Another source (www.ed.nl) revealed that the factory barn in which the pigs were kept had removed air ducts and replaced them with an air ventilation system that was designed to keep the smell inside but to let oxygen flow in. When this system failed, the pigs were left to suffocate to death in heat exceeding 40 degrees.
DutchNews.NL also disclosed that in the same week, 4,000 chickens died on a factory farm in Limburg, South-Holland when they too experienced problems with their ventilation system.
The Dutch Food Safety Board have announced that they will be launching an investigation in to both of these appalling tragedies.
Furthermore, Animal Rights NL have raised the alarm about the way in which animals are still being transported to slaughterhouses amidst record-breaking temperatures in The Netherlands, releasing footage of pigs gasping for air on a transport truck.
