Just think of all those colourful fruits and vegetables!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How much do we need?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The recommended intake for men is 700 mcg per day and 600 mcg for women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We can store it in the body, which means we do not need to eat a source of it every day, but we are advised not to stock up too much. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Research linking too much vitamin A with weaker bones in later life, and causing damage to unborn babies, has led the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/vitamins-and-minerals\/vitamin-a\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NHS<\/a>&nbsp;to caution about eating liver or taking fish liver oil supplements, especially if pregnant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thankfully, this is not something that vegans need to be too concerned about. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">vegan sources of vitamin A<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Is it possible for vegans to get enough of this vitamin in our diets? Absolutely! To get good, healthy sources of beta-carotene, we just have to think about eating red, yellow and green vegetables, such as: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pumpkin <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Butternut squash<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sweet potatoes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Peppers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carrots<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spinach<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Broccoli<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kale<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As for fruits, choose yellow or orange fruits, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mango<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apricots<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Papaya<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cantaloupe<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pink grapefruit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Since eating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/health-39057146\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ten portions<\/a> of fruit and vegetables a day has been linked to better health and living longer, getting our vitamin A from plants is a great option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you need inspiration for cooking colourful, plant-powered meals, head over to our collection of <a href=\"https:\/\/veganuary.com\/en-za\/recipes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vegan recipes<\/a>. <\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Not sure how to get enough vitamin A as a vegan?
