{"id":181940,"date":"2020-03-30T12:08:56","date_gmt":"2020-03-30T11:08:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/veganuary.com\/veganuary-2020-official-survey-results\/"},"modified":"2023-06-27T19:57:58","modified_gmt":"2023-06-27T18:57:58","slug":"veganuary-2020-official-survey-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/veganuary.com\/en-za\/veganuary-2020-official-survey-results\/","title":{"rendered":"Veganuary 2020: Official Survey Results"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Veganism is a trend that\u2019s here to stay &#8211; the phenomenal success of this year\u2019s Veganuary campaign is proof of that!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/veganuary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Veganuary-2020-official-survey.jpg\" alt=\"Image of a leaf with text \" class=\"wp-image-55547\" srcset=\"https:\/\/veganuary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Veganuary-2020-official-survey.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/veganuary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Veganuary-2020-official-survey-400x225.jpg 400w, https:\/\/veganuary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Veganuary-2020-official-survey-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/veganuary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Veganuary-2020-official-survey-800x450.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>A record-breaking 402,206 people from 192 countries signed-up for <a href=\"https:\/\/veganuary.com\/en-za\/statistics-show-the-positive-impact-of-trying-vegan-this-january\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Veganuary 2020<\/a>!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This far exceeded our target of 350,000 sign-ups and absolutely crushing our previous record of 250,000 in <a href=\"https:\/\/veganuary.com\/en-za\/veganuary-2019-the-results-are-in\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our sign-up survey revealed more than half of the 2020 participants took part for ethical reasons, either to spare animals from suffering (37%) or protect the environment (18%), while 38% said health was their main motivation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just over half of participants (51%) were still eating meat and\/or fish when they took the pledge, 30% were vegetarian and 19% were vegan. As in previous years, the majority of participants were female (83%; male = 15%), with nearly one-third of sign-ups (29%) aged between 25-34 although 18-24 year olds and those aged 35-44 also made up significant proportions (21% and 20% respectively).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Veganuary is now truly a global phenomenon<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Our highest participating countries spanned every continent:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UK<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>US<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Germany<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Argentina<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chile<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mexico<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Italy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>South Africa<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Australia<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sweden<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But how did this diverse group of participants spread across the world fare during their 31-day vegan pledge? Our follow-up survey, which was sent to nearly 350,000 people in six different languages, has revealed incredibly positive results!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Veganuary 2020: Official Survey Results<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>More than half <\/strong>of our non-vegan participants maintained a fully vegan diet for the whole month (59%) and an <strong>amazing 72%<\/strong> of them plan to stay vegan after Veganuary! When asked why they planned to stay vegan, the top reasons given were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Learned more about veganism<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It was easier than expected<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Felt improved health<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discovered great tasting food<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Veganuary email support<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though some participants didn\u2019t manage to stay 100% vegan for the whole month, <strong>more than three-quarters (77%)<\/strong> of those who didn\u2019t say they are very\/extremely likely to try veganism again in the future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The biggest challenges participants reported facing during the Veganuary pledge were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Eating out<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Friends and family<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Missing non-vegan foods<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This serves as a stark reminder that despite the increasing global popularity of veganism and the many high-profile Veganuary product launches in several countries, more still needs to be done to address negative social pressure and limited availability of vegan options in some regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the majority of Veganuary participants took part to help make the world a better place, <strong>more than half (54%) <\/strong>also experienced improvements to their own health, with the most common benefits being:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Desired change in body weight<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Better skin appearance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Happier mood<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More energy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We work very hard to equip our participants with as much helpful advice, delicious recipes and friendly support as possible, so we are thrilled to know that 98% would recommend Veganuary to others! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This figure has been consistent for several years, demonstrating the value of our work to those who want to try vegan &#8211; whether they complete the month or not, and regardless of why they chose to give it a go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We are incredibly proud of our <a href=\"https:\/\/veganuary.com\/en-za\/veganuary-2020-campaign-in-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2020 campaign<\/a> and all of our participants and look forward to what 2021 will bring!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #f52878;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/veganuary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Veganuary-EndOfCampaignReport.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLICK HERE to view the Official Veganuary 2020 Survey Results in more detail.<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Veganism is a trend that\u2019s here to stay &#8211; the phenomenal success of this year\u2019s Veganuary campaign is proof of&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":114,"featured_media":55537,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_coblocks_attr":"","_coblocks_dimensions":"","_coblocks_responsive_height":"","_coblocks_accordion_ie_support":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[985],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-181940","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-press-releases-en-za"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
