Okay, so vegan menu options at KFC are few and far between, but there are ways to make it work.
KFC might just be the last place you’d think to flock to for plant-based menu options, but if you find yourself hungry at a service station or out with non-vegan friends, at least you’re not going to starve.
There is no official vegan menu option at KFC, but if you explain your needs clearly to your server and ask about the following sides you will be okay:
- Fries (which are cooked separately in vegetable oil)
- Corn on the Cob (without butter)
- Green Beans
- House Salad (with golden Italian light dressing)
In the past KFC have said:
“We like happy customers, so we always listen to your feedback when it comes to adding new things to our menu. But adding a vegetarian option is quite complex. Some of our stores have small kitchens with no room for dedicated cookers, which we’d need for a completely vegetarian menu option. At the moment, we don’t get enough demand for a vegetarian option to begin addressing this process. However our menu is ever changing so you never know what might happen in the future.”
Fast-forward to June 2018 and we’ve heard on the vegan grapevine is set to trial a selection of potential vegetarian options in the UK in late 2018/early 2019. Will any of these be vegan? There’s no guarantee, but we’ll be watching with interest for what they come up with!
While we’re waiting, we’ll be whipping up a jumbo batch of the mouth-watering Vegan Fried Chicken from our recipe section to tide us over!
