La diabetes en Latinoam\u00e9rica es la cuarta causa de muerte -detr\u00e1s del infarto, los accidentes cerebrovasculares y la demencia- y uno de cada doce latinoamericanos la posee, subiendo de 18 millones en 1980 a 62 millones de personas 35 a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s. Es m\u00e1s, estimaciones de la OMS indican que de mantenerse el ritmo de crecimiento de este problema en la regi\u00f3n, para el 2040 ser\u00edan 110 millones de casos.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Lo m\u00e1s preocupante es que cada vez hay m\u00e1s casos de diabetes de tipo 2 en adultos j\u00f3venes e incluso adolescentes.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">La diabetes es una de las causas principales de muerte e incapacidad en occidente; <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">y puede provocar complicaciones vasculares causantes de enfermedades card\u00edacas, \u00falceras de pie, amputaciones de extremidades, disfunci\u00f3n er\u00e9ctil, insuficiencia renal y problemas de vista (incluso ceguera). <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">La esperanza de vida media de una persona con diabetes es de 10 veces menor que la de una persona sana.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">\u00bfC\u00f3mo puede ayudar ser vegano?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">En <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><em><span inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> se public\u00f3 el mayor estudio hasta la fecha sobre veganismo y diabetes. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Se hizo un seguimiento a m\u00e1s de 46 000 personas sin diabetes durante m\u00e1s de dos a\u00f1os, y se evalu\u00f3 el desarrollo de nuevos casos de la enfermedad. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Los resultados indicaron que los veganos ten\u00edan un 60% menos de probabilidades de desarrollar diabetes que el resto<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">, y los vegetarianos, un 35% menos.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Los autores del estudio comentaron estos porcentajes m\u00e1s bajos (en el caso de los vegetarianos y los veganos, sobre todo):<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">\u201cPuede que las frutas y las verduras ayuden a que haya una menor incidencia de diabetes de tipo 2 por su baja densidad energ\u00e9tica, su baja carga glic\u00e9mica y su alto contenido en fibra y macronutrientes. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Otros elementos caracter\u00edsticos de la alimentaci\u00f3n vegetariana son los cereales integrales y las legumbres. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Se ha detectado que estos alimentos mejoran el control glic\u00e9mico, reducen la tasa de absorci\u00f3n de carbohidratos y tambi\u00e9n, el riesgo de desarrollar diabetes.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">En otros estudios transversales se demostr\u00f3 que los veganos ten\u00edan el menor riesgo de desarrollar diabetes de tipo 2, en comparaci\u00f3n con los vegetarianos, los pescetarianos y con otros tipos de alimentaci\u00f3n.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Diferentes ensayos cl\u00ednicos tambi\u00e9n han demostrado que llevar a cabo una alimentaci\u00f3n vegana puede ayudar a controlar la diabetes del tipo
