British businesswoman, athlete and vegan activist, Heather Mills has recently bought the former PepsiCo/Walkers Factory in County Durham in a bid to create new jobs in the area and expand her vegan food business, VBites.
The former crisp factory closed last year resulting in 355 job losses. Heather, who was interviewed by ITV’s ‘This Morning’ last Tuesday, explained that she bought the 6 hectare site in her hometown after hearing about the job losses and is hoping to encourage “the supermarkets to buy British“. You can watch the full interview below.
In the same interview, she also explained how going vegan 25 years ago helped her recover from losing her leg. She also discussed how her successful VBites food range is helping people easily transition to a plant-based diet; by replacing foods they love like burgers, pizzas and chicken like-for-like.
She also briefly mentions the launch of VBites’ vegan fish steaks, which are now being served as an alternative fish and chips option across the UK’s major pub chain Greene King’s Flaming Grill restaurants – with almost 150 branches nationwide!
The plant-based fish alternative is part of the company’s ‘Making Waves’ range and in a statement on the VBites website, it reads:
We are amid an exciting transition towards a plant-based revolution, with a total of 7% of the UK now leading a plant-based, vegan lifestyle. 3.5 million people lead the change in the UK, and VBites are no strangers to being part of this.
The contaminants in our oceans are finding their way into the food chain. Through taste-obsessed development, the ‘Making Waves’ range proves some delicious, truly revolutionary alternatives to real fish, which look and taste the same, but without harming any fish, or our oceans, at all.
