Hot on the heels of Pizza Express launching its Vegan Giardiniera pizza in Waitrose this week, we’re super excited to announce that another plant-based pizza will be available in Tesco stores from Monday 16 September
The Oumph! frozen Italian Style pizza will be topped with sun-dried tomatoes, rocket, vegan cheese, and thyme and garlic seasoned Oumph! soya protein, sitting on a hand-stretched base which has been baked in a wood-fired brick oven. Yum!
Fans of the brand will have spotted the original Oumph! meat replacement chunks and strips in Tesco stores since March this year. Now, alongside enjoying them atop the company’s pizza, a new flavour variety is also launching on 16 September: Oumph! Salt & Smoky. With a salty, smoky and slightly sweet taste, it’s being topped as the perfect partner for brunch; served with a full English, in a bagel, or with American pancakes. Or you could try an ‘O.L.T.’, as recommended by Oumph! Sounds delicious.
Both the Italian Style pizza and Salt & Smoky Oumph! will be available in 179 Tesco stores across the UK. The pizza is already a booming success in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland, and in some stores sold out in a matter of days!
Anna-Kajsa Lidell, co-founder & head of progress strategy at Food for Progress, Oumph!’s parent company, said:
“At Food for Progress we believe in mouth-watering food that is kinder to the environment. With our pizza we hope to reach new consumer groups beyond the core vegan and vegetarian fan base.”
You only need to read our blog to see the wealth of new plant-based products launching each week, many of which appeal to reducetarians and flexitarians. It’s only a matter of time before more meat eaters get on board with tasty and realistic meat replacements such as Oumph!
“There is an increasing demand for plant-based options. With all due respect to slow-cooking, often we just don’t have time to cook. This is when we need good, fast food that tastes great, like the Oumph! pizza!”
Original Oumph! flavours already available at Tesco include top seller Pulled Oumph! chunks in BBQ sauce (great with tacos or burgers), Oumph! Kebab Spiced, and Oumph! The Chunk, which is unseasoned and can be added to any dish.
The plant-based products are made from soya beans, and the flavoured varieties contain organic herb and spice mixes. They are also gluten free, high in protein and fibre, and a source of iron and folic acid. In Sweden the brand has won several awards, including ‘Food Product of the Year’.
