“It’s not just about tasty food, but how the ingredients nourish the body on a cellular level to ensure people stay disease free, healthy and happy into old age!” – April Chandler, Author The Little Book of Wonder Foods and Juices
April explains why she became a vegan as follows:
‘When I was in primary school we went on a school trip to a farm and we looked after animals, including pigs, and the biggest one was called Melvin. At the end of the week, we went with the farmer to auction Melvin to be sold for sausage meat. I was very distraught about this and decided not to eat meat again and became a vegetarian. I did go back to eating meat in the Royal Navy, otherwise I would have starved at sea, but it was always in the back of my mind and I wasn’t happy about eating meat. Even though I was healthy, fit and used to eat a lot of raw food and vegetable dishes, it was only when my son River turned 6 and informed me he didn’t want to eat meat again as his tummy told him not to that I said I’d give it up to support him. Shortly after becoming vegetarians, River and I cut out dairy, eggs closely followed by my younger two children. I then became a strict vegan and I’m glad to say a few months later, all three of my children stopped eating foods that contained animal products, and now my whole family is vegan and use only vegan products on ourselves, in our home. It’s a way of life for us now.’
