I initially went vegan (from lacto-ovo veg) for a 21 day trial and I failed miserably! I spent too much time thinking about restrictions (I was super dependent on cheese and packaged/processed food). A few weeks after I had given up, I had a change of attitude and decided to try again. I focused on all the awesome stuff I could eat and worked to include as many whole foods in my diet. It went swimmingly! I'm still vegan 3+ years later.
It’s all about attitude and priorities. I travel a lot, so I sometimes find myself in a tough spot (no English listing for ingredients, for example), but I just think about all the good things veganism does for me and my world and it keeps me from getting in a funk about difficulties. Just do your best, ignore the vegan police and live as compassionately as possible.
Oh, the picture is from this year’s (2014) Run Like Hell in Portland, Oregon. I did the 10k. The event, like many others, offered beer and food (lots of vegan options!) afterwards for the finishers. Many Oregon breweries are conscious about their ingredients and don’t use animal products in the processing of their beer, either.
You can still be active, eat awesome food and drink great beer as a vegan! 🙂
