So I did Veganuary this January 2016, after my sister had been vegan for 6 years, she convinced me to do it for a month...just to see how I found it."Its too difficult!!""What do you actually eat?""Where do you get your PROTEIN from?"I remember asking my sister these and realized.... it cant be that hard, there are loads of vegans out there.. and if my sister can do it - I sure can (Normal Sibling mentality)
My first week of being a “new” vegan was like a detox! I was a full meat and cheese eater and drinker before then, so it was a big step going from a Carnivore to plants! From not really knowing what I was doing and too scared to eat some things because i didn’t know if it was vegan or not, I just cut out all sugars…..sweets, chocolates and crisps. I also cut out booze for the month of Jan and started going to the gym…. believe it or not I lost a stone in 1 month. It was dropping off me. Other benefits were…. I felt great! Lots of energy and was sleeping soooo well. I also didn’t have a worry in the world and my general mood was pretty zen.
Looking back I now know the reason, hormones in milk and meat really does effect us much more than thought. I have also had Psoriasis for 18 years and I no longer use mediation to keep my Ps at bay. All the toxin’s and red meats were the biggest causes of inflaming my condition. My skin was the best I had ever seen it! I still get flare up because of the change of weather, but its a noticeable change and a noticeable benefit to my well being.
Friends of mine kept asking after January…so how was it? I told them, Amazing – So much so I am now living a vegan lifestyle.
Over the months, I cleared my kitchen of any animal produce and stocked up on all the essentials and timed my shop when ever Holland and Barrett had a penny sale on. I changed my duck feather duvet to a hyper allergenic one. I gave away leather clothing, that also didn’t fit anymore.I still have a few pairs of leather boots, but will wear them out. I haven’t bought any animal products…even when I’m buying birthday presents for friends.
You Tube was my savior as well as Veganuary for helping me with fun meal ideas, juices and discovering transition people just like me helped a lot.I found that a lot of vegan You Tubers were pretty serious, so had an idea and started my own channel and blog. Being from Wales and Vegan …the name came naturally – Oi! Vegan!!! The videos are also Linked to my website – www.OiVegan.com
The blog includes reviews, recipes, videos and generally day to life being vegan.I’m dating a carnivore aka Mr Carni and he is going to do Veganuary in 2017, which I will be blogging and testing fun dishes on.Just want to say thank you, its the best thing I’ve ever done in my life….you only get one.
