A quick word about who we are...My name is Chris (dad), my wife Lyndsey (mom), Ellie 13, Keiran 10, Callum 10, and Corey 4.
We are a family of six from Staffordshire, UK.
Our journey began in October 2015 when myself and Lyndsey decided that we wanted make a change to our health. After reading and researching we decided that a meat free diet would be a great way to make a healthy change. The weeks and months that followed gave insight into a new way of life, and a life that made us happy, that was until we delved deeper into the meat and dairy industry and realised the suffering and devastation our lifestyle choices were still having. We watched documentaries like Cowspiracy and Earthlings. With our new found outlook and having made the connection, we decided that a plant based diet and a vegan lifestyle was the only thing to do. From that day on we embraced the changes and feel so strongly about this way of life.
Throughout our journey as a family, we felt it important for our eldest kids Ellie, Keiran and Callum to experience all of the information, and make the decision on living a vegan lifestyle for themselves. We believed that giving our kids that responsibility would also create empowerment from making such a decision.
Ellie – “Transitioning from a vegetarian to a vegan was helpful in letting me learn this way of life in a progressive way. Trying new foods and realising it was easier than I thought was really important.”
Keiran – “Watching documentaries like before the flood made me feel proud knowing that I was doing something to help.”
Callum – “I couldn’t believe how much tasty food there is to eat that was not adding to the suffering of animals, or the planet.”
Moving forward we have explored the vegan movement and attended festivals, workshops and events to improve our knowledge and mix with the community. Having access to alternative foods, products and services has helped make the transition fun and exciting. Supporting activists, and animal sanctuaries is a great way to see how your decisions can make a difference in real terms and in front of your eyes. We all agree as a family that continued education and exposure to the consequences of our actions allow us to remain focused and content with the changes we have all made.
One last point is that our actions have also helped family members look at their own lifestyles and a result make the change to live a vegan lifestyle.
