My name is Daniel and I was diagnosed with an auto immune disease called relapsing polychondritis which attacks the cartilage in the body. I read an article about a woman who was a vegetarian with the same disease.
She gave up dairy and after a year her relapsing polychondritis went into remission. I have been vegan almost a year now and all my debilitating symptoms have gone away. My rheumatologist took me off the steroid medicine and basically said keep with my lifestyle change. I am grateful to have my health back and enjoying life to the fullest as a retired Vietnam era veteran. I enjoyed my first vegan Thanksgiving with family and friends yesterday, and have the support of my loving partner and his cousin who are vegans as well.
During my career I drafted manually for utility planning companies, including Arizona Public Service and the Salt River Project in Phoenix Arizona. Now I sculpt art from natural sustainable by-product powders. My travels to Mexico and Central America exposed me to wonderful exotic foods and ancient cultures which reflect in my Earth Friendly Artwork. My passion is to help conserve our natural resources and advocate recycling. I belong to the Hemp Industry Association as an Industrial Hemp artist. During the winter months in Phoenix Arizona I enjoy riding my mountain bike and swimming to keep fit. In the hot summer months I vacation in San Diego and work out of my art studio there, exhibiting my work as a visiting artist in the Gaslamp district Brokers building downtown.
I remain optimistic about the future of our planet because of the green movement in industry, farming and free trade. We are slowly making a shift away from fossil fuels and more industries are using recycled sustainable products. I belong to Chow Locally which provides a weekly selection of fresh, healthy, local foods from the best small and mid-size farms in Arizona, all organic produce. Whole Foods educates the public about the benefits of free trade and I see a trend in that direction. Because vegetarian and vegan lifestyles are becoming more popular for health and ethical reasons, we are helping to restore balance to our bodies and our beloved planet. Green cemeteries (sanctuaries) with options to grow trees and not leave a carbon footprint is another example of the green revolution taking place. We are the caretakers of this beautiful planet called Earth. Let’s keep it green for future generations to come. This is my testimonial to the healing powers of a plant based diet.
