I'm 23 years old and have been vegan for 4 years!! After becoming vegan I lost 20 pounds, my skin glowed and became clearer, my hair grew faster and became shinier and softer, my overall energy levels increased, and I have become much more creative in the kitchen! ;)
I made the switch because I love animals and what they are put through in order to become an unnecessary protein source is heinous and torture. My parents have always been skeptical of a plant based diet thinking I’m not getting enough iron, calcium, and b-12 so they would make me get routine blood checks to insure I am as healthy as I say I am. Sure enough each test came back saying I am very healthy with no deficiencies or surpluses of vitamins and nutrients.
Last summer my boyfriend (who is also vegan) and I went on a backpacking trip with our carnivore friends who also live at the gym. They were giving us a hard time about how we aren’t going to have any energy for the hike without things like beef jerky and what not. But we did have our soy “beef jerky” and any other alternative to their meat products. After the first couple miles into the hike the carnivores were hurting- always having to stop and catch their breath while the vegans were cruising not feeling the agony the carnivores were. By the end of the hike the carnivores were so exhausted that when we got to camp the vegans were the only ones with the energy to get it all set up. It was very interesting to see in action the benefits of our vegan non-gym based lifestyle to our friends carnivore gym-based lifestyle. Vegan power!!!
A couple of months ago I broke my arm riding my bike to work, it was a horrible break broke 2 bones and broke one of the bones in 2 places. Many people asked me, “do you think the break was so bad because your vegan?” I would always reply with an annoyed no. So I asked my doctor who didn’t know I was vegan what he thought of my bones and their strength. His response was even better than I could have imagined, he said I have some of the strongest bones he’s ever seen and he can’t imagine how hard the impact was to cause so much damage to my bones. I have pins and a plate in my arm that usually require a year to heal before you can go back in and remove the hardware. My doctor said he has never seen anyone heal so quickly and we are going to do the surgery at 4 1/2 months. Not only does my diet have the lowest carbon footprint, clear my conscious of abuse and murder, but I am a health anomaly when it comes to healing and kicking any carnivore’s ass I highly recommend trying a vegan diet, it will change your life in ways you could never have imagined.
