When I was 44, I was I was overweight and did no exercise. I was then diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer.
I had the cancerous lump removed to be told it has spread further into my breast and I would now need a mastectomy. I went on the have a full mastectomy but was then told that the cancer had spread further into my rib cage and I would need to go home for a six week recovery period and, on my return, would need to have my top two ribs taken out in order for the surgeon to have easier access to the cancer.
It was in this six weeks recovery time that everything changed. I was in bed, in a great deal of pain after my mastectomy with my daughter and her laptop. We were looking up alternative cures for cancer, we came across things like Gerson Therapy, The China Study, we watched Fat Sick and Nearly Dead and Forks Over Knives. We trawled the internet for relevant information and came to the realisation that nutrition played an enormous part in disease.
The very next day she went out and bought me a juicer and a truckload of organic fruit and vegetables. She brought me my very first juice that day followed by five more every day for six weeks. I also took 6 x 100mg Vitamin C capsules each day. It was easy for me as I didn’t feel much like eating anyway.
Six weeks later on my return to hospital, I had all the relevant scans, and was told I was Cancer Free. Can you imagine our absolute joy, and the surgeon’s shock? Where had it gone? It was definitely there prior to my six week juice fast.
I was obviously now a firm believer in the power of raw food. So much so, that when the surgeon advised that I should now go on to have chemotherapy for precautionary reasons, I refused on the strength of my new lifestyle.
I am now 46 and two years cancer free, and a raw vegan.
