Timothy "Livewire" Shieff is a professional English Freerunner. He won the 2009 Barclaycard World Freerun Championship and took part in the television programme MTV's Ultimate Parkour Challenge.
In 2011 and 2012 he appeared in the televised American Ninja Warrior competition. He is currently one of the most successful freerun athletes in the world, with victories and runner ups in events such as The Barclaycard World Freerun Championships, and the Red Bull Art Of Motion.
He became vegan in August 2012. In an interview with nom yourself he explained how a plant-based diet has improved his ability to perform freerun moves:
Its given me a new burst of energy and enthusiasm in my training. I have more energy than I’ve had in years, I feel like a 10 year old running around a playground again. My joints feel a lot stronger/more loose I’ve shedded any excess weight and my recovery has improved. It’s also great to know the body I’m building now is made entirely of fruit, veg, nuts, seeds etc and no other being reality was tampered with for every bit of health I now possess. It puts the miracle of life back into perspective when you put a spinach leaf in your mouth and that helps create fibers in my arms that allow me to stand on one hand.
He says that compassion for animals was a factor in becoming vegan which has strengthened since. He remembers as a child being appalled to find out how the lamb on his plate was a baby sheep, and how his parents were casual in telling him. He could never kill an animal intentionally himself, so decided he had no right to pay others to kill animals to feed him.
