Veganuary launches in Spain continuing campaign’s global expansion

UK-born charity opens eighth country chapter as it celebrates 10-year anniversary

27th September, 2023 — With the climate crisis making headlines almost daily, Veganuary – the global pledge to try vegan for January – is intensifying its efforts to promote a planet-friendly plant-based diet by launching a new official chapter in Spain today.

The new hub joins the campaign as it celebrates 10 years since a Yorkshire-based husband and wife team launched the pledge and hoped 1000 people would sign up. Now, with offices in eight countries and Veganuary a household name in the UK, millions of people have taken the pledge and businesses around the world have embraced the movement with enthusiasm and innovation.

More than 5 million people in Spain, representing 13% of the population, already identify as either vegetarian, vegan, or flexitarian according to Veganuary’s new Director for Spain – Amanda Romero. She adds:

“The majority of people in Spain do not want animals to be harmed, ecosystems to be destroyed and species to become extinct; the vast majority of people are concerned about the climate crisis. People across the country are looking for ways they can make a positive difference before things get even worse than they were this summer. Veganuary helps people put these values into action by supporting them to try vegan for 31 days.”

Spanish actor and comedian Dani Rovira, who’s joined the campaign as a Veganuary Ambassador, says: “I join the Veganuary initiative because I believe it is more important to convince than to conquer, especially in a non-judgemental way, but rather by making people understand the importance of veganism for the sustainability of the planet. The proposal to spend the month of January exploring vegan habits seems beautiful.

Sometimes we collaborate in causes with the essence of contributing our grain of sand, in this case, we could say, that Veganuary invites us to remove our grain of cruelty in the world. And it is in our hands. And at our table.”
