New Year, Same You!

Most resolutions are aimed at telling you that you’re not good enough. Every January, we’re hit with the same tired messages: Fix yourself. Become someone different. Change everything.

But what if you didn’t need to reinvent yourself?
What if it’s less about changing and more about returning to who you already are?

The world is asking a lot of us right now. So this Veganuary, let’s flip the script and leave the resolution pressure behind: New Year, Same You.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY “SAME YOU”?

You value balance and consistency. You look after your health and wellness, and already make sure to optimise your nutrition and well-being. You’re interested in what you put into your body and how to maintain positive alignment.

Well, what if there was a way to still be “you”, to achieve your goals, but with small changes that allowed you to align yourself a little closer with your inner values?

I'm concious of my health. How will trying vegan help me?

We’re glad you asked!

Studies have found that people following a plant-based diet rich in fruit, veg, legumes, whole grains and nuts had a significantly lower risk of developing heart disease than those following other diets.

Similar studies have shown a link to lowered risks of developing breast cancer, aggressive forms of prostate cancer and digestive system cancers including pancreatic, colon and rectal cancers too.

Added to this, one study of more than 200,000 people found that those who adhered to a healthy plant-based eating pattern had a 34% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes than those who followed unhealthy, non-plant-based diets.

A balanced plant-based diet will likely add to your fibre intake too – a great way of supporting digestion and energy levels!

I'm concerned about antibiotic resistance. Should I be?

Yes, antibiotic resistance is a global health threat. The heavy use of medically important antibiotics in factory farmed animals is a major cause. Which is one of the reasons why we encourage people try vegan!

Antibiotics are routinely used in intensive farming systems to prevent and treat infections and can also be used in animal feed to increase growth. Studies have estimated that 73% of all antibiotics sold globally are used in animals raised for food.

Of course you would recommend a plant-based diet. You're Veganuary!

You’re right. Of course we would advocate for people to try veganism! But it’s not just us saying that.

The American Academy of Nutrition and Dietics state that a vegan diet can be nutritionally adequate and “can offer long-term health benefits.

The Office of Health Economics suggests that if everyone in England switched to a vegan diet, the health benefits would be so substantial it would save the NHS around £6.7 billion per year.

And Dr Michael Greger, the world-respected author and nutritionist, has written a book called How Not To Die in which he advocates for a plant-based diet. Here’s our guide to his Daily Dozen if you’d like more info!

If you want more proof that Veganuary is a good idea, we can also refer you to our former participants. Roughly half of our six-month survey respondents noted increased energy, improved mood and better skin!
