Nearly two-thirds see health benefits of more energy, better skin and improved mood
5th October, 2023 — Veganuary, the global organisation encouraging people to try vegan in January and beyond, has today released the results from its six-month follow-up survey of Veganuary 2023 participants* which show the long-lasting effects of the one-month pledge.
Six months after completing their 31-day Veganuary challenge, 80% of those participants who were not vegan when they signed up have maintained a dramatic reduction in their animal product consumption:
- 28% are still eating a fully vegan diet
- 36% are eating at least 75% less meat and other animal products than pre-Veganuary
- 16% are eating at least 50% less meat and other animal products than pre-Veganuary
- 96% of those who are not fully vegan said they’re likely to try a vegan diet again in the future
Nearly two-thirds (62%) of the Veganuary participants who have continued to eat a fully vegan diet for the past 6 months have experienced health improvements, including:
- increased energy (58%)
- improved mood (57%)
- better skin (51%)
- desired change body weight (43%)

Commenting on these results, Veganuary’s International Head of Communications, Toni Vernelli, said: “These results show that, far from being just a one-month pledge, Veganuary is helping to drive long-lasting diet change around the world.”
She added: “Cutting out meat and dairy is the best way to cut our carbon footprint. As an added bonus, nearly two-thirds of participants who stick with a plant-based diet feel health benefits as well. There is simply no downside to signing up for Veganuary!”
*The survey was sent by Veganuary to 469,000 of the people who signed up during the 2023 campaign. 6,967 people responded.
