(Equal portions of 2 heaped tbsp each and soaked together for 5 hours)
Brown rice, pearl millets (or any other millet)
Black rice, brown channa
Black eyed beans
Green moong dal
White rice
(Approximately 2 cups in total of the following cut into 1 inch size)
Shallots, Tomatoes, Bottle gourd,
Carrot and Beans
Spices (Crush them together):
1 inch ginger, 3 cloves garlic,
½ tsp chili powder, ¼ tsp
turmeric, 5 curry leaves, ¼ tsp
black pepper, 2 green chilies
Cumin seeds, Mustard seeds,
Urad dal, Hing

This is it! Khichdi has got its long awaited makeover!


  • Take a pressure cooker and add the soaked ingredients, all vegetables and 4 cups water. Cook for minimum four whistles.
  • Make seasoning. Heat a pan and add 2 tsp oil. Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, urad dal, hing, crushed spices and fry for half a minute. Add the seasoning to the cooked khichdi and garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Serve with any dry chutney powder/ pickle.
