Red Rice Puttu (Sweet breakfast)

There's more where this came from!

Ingredients

2 cups red rice puttu flour
Salt, to taste
½ cup fresh grated coconut
1 cup jaggery powder (or more as desired)
2 bananas
2 cups nut or coconut milk (optional)

Method

  • Take a big bowl and add the red rice puttu flour in it.
  • Add a pinch of salt and sprinkle a little water, mix the flour and remove the lumps.
  • Repeat this process of sprinkling water and removing the lumps, till you get a moist but free-flowing mix.
  • Take a tube-shaped puttu maker and add 4 tsp puttu mix to the tube; top it with 1 tsp grated coconut.
  • Repeat with 4 tsp puttu mix and 1 tsp coconut. Follow this method till the tube is filled. Fill three or four tubes similarly.
  • Place the tubes in a steamer and steam for 10-15 minutes.
  • Once done, transfer the cooked puttu into a bowl and add jaggery powder.
  • Mix well. Mixing the jaggery powder while puttu is warm helps to melt the jaggery.
  • Serve in a bowl with chopped banana. You can add nut milk/coconut milk if you like.
