Veganuary 2025 makes a splash in SoCal, Portland, and Seattle!

Municipalities and restaurants celebrate Veganuary 2025 with exciting plant-based initiatives and new menu items.

(Portland, OR – January 17th 2025) – Veganuary, the global movement which encourages millions of people to try eating plant-based during January and beyond, is inspiring restaurants, retailers, and even entire cities to put plant-based front and center this month.

Food:

Every January, businesses around the world are launching more, bigger, and better vegan menus to capitalize on the huge popularity of Veganuary. Over 2,100 new vegan products and menu options were introduced worldwide during Veganuary 2024. Restaurants around LA, Portland, and Seattle are taking part in the campaign this year. Some of the highlights include:

  • Ike’s Love & Sandwiches: launched a new sandwich for January called “The Veganuary” made with mushrooms, french fries, avocado, french dressing, and vegan cheese. Available at the chain’s over 100 locations around the country.
  • Voodoo Doughnut: offering $10 off vegan dozen during January. Available at 18 locations around the country excluding airport and Universal CityWalk locations.
  • Rush Bowls: offering a “buy one Detox Bowl, get half off any other bowl or smoothie” deal through their app with code VEGANUARY. Available all month at the chain’s over 50 locations around the country.
  • Gregory’s Coffee: launched a vegan chocolate croissant for January. They also recently eliminated additional charges for any non-dairy milks. Visit one of the chain’s 52 locations across the country.
  • Next Level Burger: launched a Veganuary Rewards challenge and new Superfood Duo menu items. Visit one of the 27 locations of Next Level Burger and Veggie Grill by Next Level across the country.
  • Veggie Grill by Next Level: launched a Veganuary Rewards challenge and launched a new Smoothie Menu featuring 5 superfood smoothies.
  • Pita Pit: launched a separate vegan menu section for online ordering at all locations. Visit one of the chain’s around 75 locations across 26 states.
  • Salt & Straw: launched its new Dairy Free Decadence series for January featuring five new vegan flavors. Available at the chain’s 27 locations across the country.
  • Woodstock’s Pizza: offering $5 off any pizza with vegan cheese, or salad, with promo code “Veganuary”. Available at all 7 Woodstock’s CA locations.
  • Jimbo’s: the San Diego County organic grocery chain added new vegan products for the month and is highlighting its large plant-based selection during the month.
  • Maya’s Cookies: launched new Sweet Cream Cold Brew cookie for Veganuary. Available at both San Diego locations.
  • Burgerville: launched new seasonal non-dairy Strawberry Jam Bliss Shake, available until February 7 at the chain’s 40 locations in Portland, OR and surrounding areas.
  • Blue Star Donuts: launched three new vegan flavors for Veganuary: Sugar n’ Spice, Orange Olive Oil, and the limited edition Tropical Delight. The chain also launched new non-dairy seasonal drinks: the Toffee Nut Oat Milk Latte, and the Toffee Nut Oat Milk Matcha Latte. Available at their 6 locations across Portland, OR.
  • Food Fight! Grocery: Launched: Raspberry Chocolate shake as the “shake of the month” for Veganuary. Located in Portland, OR.
  • Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya: launched Vegan Char Shiu (pork belly) featuring Lypid’s plant-based pork belly. Customers can also add two pieces of the vegan char shiu to any dish for $4. Available at the chain’s 14 locations across Seattle, WA.
  • Ivar’s (Acres of Clams, Salmon House, and Mukilteo Landing): the three full-service water-view Ivar’s locations in Seattle are offering special Vegnauary menus with plant-based dishes including Kite Hill Vegan Spinach Ravioli, Res Thai Curry, and Gnocchi Pasta.
  • Georgetown Liquor Company: launched a vegan Meatball Sub, made with house-made seitan meatballs, vegan parmesan, and marina, on a toasted french roll. Available all month long in Seattle, WA.
  • Pi Vegan Pizzeria: launched the Shroom Truffle pizza, featuring a delicious blend of shiitake, king blue oyster, and maitake mushrooms. Also offering a variation called The Green Shroom Truffle Shuffle with spinach. Available all month long in Seattle, WA.
  • Araya’s Place: offering special menu items for Veganuary. Located in Seattle, WA.

Food companies also celebrate Veganuary and plant-based foods by launching new vegan products during this time of year, such as:

  • Treeline Cheese (launched Cheddar and Smoked Gouda aged cheese wheels, and a new slice-able, melt-able mozzarella wheel)
  • Amy’s (launched Pasta Fagioli, Vegetable Jambalaya, 3 Bean Vegetable Chili)
  • Higher Taste (launched a new vegan sandwich, The Sammy’s Original)
  • Lypid (launched BBQ Pork Bao Bun)
  • Franklin Farms (launched Pineapple Terriyaki Balls)
  • Juicy Marbles (launching new product for Veganuary mid-January)

Celebrations:

Municipalities – such as the cities of West Hollywood, CA and Durham, NC – are celebrating with dedicated Veganuary campaigns encouraging residents to take part! “I am proud to bring Veganuary to the City of West Hollywood! This action is a continuation of the City’s ambitious climate goals and ongoing support for animal rights and welfare,” says West Hollywood Vice Mayor Chelsea Bryers.

Students at Universities including UCLA, UC Berkeley, and NYU are bringing Veganuary to campuses with special events and encouraging other students to take part. Veganuary is also collaborating with The Humane Society of the United States’ Forward Food program for the second year in a row on a plant-based training and pilot for food professionals at universities, K-12 schools, and other institutions during Veganuary. This year’s participants include Yosemite Valley Lodge and Swedish Hospital Cherry Hill Campus in Seattle, WA. 

Events big and small are popping up, such as the Veganuary Kickstart held by Vegan Food Popup Events at the North Park Vegan Market on January 11th, with presentations and demos, to discover healthy recipes, get nutrition tips, sample delicious food and beverages, take wellness classes, and more. 

Workplaces:

Over 40 US employers have already announced their participation in the Veganuary Workplace Challenge, meaning they are inviting their employees to try vegan for 31 days. Some of the western highlights are City of West Hollywood, CA, City of Vancouver, WA, EY, KSPS PBS public television, LUSH, Daimler Truck North America, Jimbo’s, Higher Taste, and Omnidian.“At KSPS PBS public television, the Veganuary Workplace Challenge aligns with our values of education, civic health, and sustainability—values that define public broadcasting. Celebrity encouragement:

More known voices than ever are lending their support to Veganuary this year. Hollywood star Woody Harrelson and his wife Laura have donated their plant-based recipe – Creamy Potato Leek Soup – to Veganuary’s 2025 Celebrity eCookbook which participants receive for free when they register on Veganuary’s website. Bethany Antonia, star of House of the Dragon, vegan Comedian Preacher Lawson, vegan Olympic rowing champion Imogen Grant, and WWE Hall of Fame Wrestler, Amy Dumas are also among the new celebrities supporting the campaign.
