New Year, Same You!

What If I Don’t Want To Be Someone Different This New Year?

We get it. You like you. You think you’re pretty cool! Why would you want to follow „new year, new you“ traditions and routines? You like yourself just the way you are.

So how about this year you commit to something a bit easier?
New Year, Same You!

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY „SAME YOU“?

You care deeply about the environment. Perhaps you have an electric car and have swapped flying abroad for staycations? Maybe you’ve switched out single-use items, purchased a reusable cup, ditched fast fashion or regularly choose eco-friendly alternatives. Why would you want to chage?

Well, what if there was a way to still be „you“ but with small swaps that allowed you to align yourself a little closer with your inner values and make even more of an impact with your daily choices?

I already do lots for the environment. How would trying vegan help?

Eating a vegan diet is one of the easiest and most effective things an individual can do for the planet.

Did you know, for example, that a study has shown that a vegan diet has just 30% of the environmental impact a high meat diet does?

Another study has shown that vegan diets reduce land-use impacts by 50–86%, water use by 22–70%, and greenhouse gas emissions by 21–70%. This is notably higher than not just a omnivore or pescetarian diet, but a vegetarian one too!

It is no wonder that researchers at Oxford University have said that a plant-based diet is „probably the single biggest way to reduce your impact on planet Earth, not just greenhouse gases, but global acidification, eutrophication, land use and water use.“

The lead author Joseph Poore said: „It is far bigger than cutting down on your flights or buying an electric car.“

I'd like some more stats about animal agriculture please

Sure!

Meat and dairy production uses 83% of farmland globally yet supplies only 18% of calories and 37% of protein.

The environmental burden is hugely disproportionate to what it creates. Did you know beef has an energy efficiency of about 2%? This means that for every 100 kilocalories you feed a cow, you only get 2 kilocalories of beef back.

The system is wildly destructive and leads to deforestation, biodiversity loss, and increased freshwater use. It accounts for 60% of the greenhouse gases emitted by agricultural activities too!

Could you plainly tell me why this matters

Looking at the evidence, it shows that individual dietary choices do add up!

For environmental advocates a diet isn’t just a personal choice. It is a climate, resource and biodiversity choice too. Above that, is a lever for change.

If you’re wondering if one person can make a difference the answer is „yes“. Especially when you realise you won’t be alone! Over 25.8 million people worldwide chose to try vegan in January 2025. Imagine the impact that made. You can be part of that!

Okay. I'm convinced! How do I begin?

We’re glad to have you on board!

We know it can be a little daunting knowing where to start but we’re here to help. If you try vegan with us, we’ll email you eCookbooks and meal plans for free.

We think you might be particularly interested in our Low Carbon Cookbook – a resource for all environmentalists!

WHY NOT TRY PLANT-BASED?

We hope we’ve convinced you that you don’t really have to change anything to carry on being who you are. We’re just hoping that if you join us in trying this small change for a month, you might allow yourself to become more you.
