Events:

The Veg Society of DC – active throughout the DMV – kicked off Veganuary on January 4th at DC Vegan and is organizing seven more events in honor of Veganuary. In Maryland, they’re celebrating Veganuary with Montgomery County Councilmember Evan Glass over lunch.

“We are huge fans of Veganuary at the Veg Society of DC and, by hosting multiple special Veganuary events, we hope to encourage more people in the Washington DC metro area to try vegan,” says Elissa Free, VP of the Veg Society of DC. “We are here all year long to offer community and support to keep it up – we have activities that range from restaurant visits, to volunteering at animal sanctuaries, to hiking, biking, movie nights, and even a book club! Being vegan has never been more fun.”

Additionally, Rosie’s Sanctuary is inviting veg-curious people to meet their beloved sanctuary residents (pigs, sheep, goats, miniature horses, cows, chickens, and turkeys) for a family event with storytime and vegan baked goods, and the restaurant chain &pizza will celebrate with pizza samples, freebies, and Veganuary shirts.

Workplaces:

Over 40 US employers have already announced their participation in the Veganuary Workplace Challenge, meaning they are inviting their employees to try vegan for 31 days. Some of the local highlights are EY and LUSH.
“We’re excited to be on board with Veganuary again. What a fantastic way to empower EY people to consider a plant-based diet and help in building a better, and more sustainable, working world. The transition to net zero is about big and small changes; considering meat and dairy free is one of the ways our individual choices can make a difference. I’m looking forward to the challenge,” says Amy Brachio, Global Vice Chair Sustainability at EY.

Celebrity encouragement:

More known voices than ever are lending their support to Veganuary this year. Hollywood star Woody Harrelson and his wife Laura have donated their plant-based recipe – Creamy Potato Leek Soup – to Veganuary’s 2025 Celebrity eCookbook which participants receive for free when they register on Veganuary’s website. Bethany Antonia, star of House of the Dragon, vegan Comedian Preacher Lawson, and vegan Olympic rowing champion Imogen Grant are among the new celebrities supporting the campaign.

“Eating vegan or reducing meat and dairy consumption is the single biggest personal impact we can make on our emissions. I had been vegan for 18 months leading up to the Paris Olympics and had PBs on the rowing machine and in the gym. Veganuary is a great way to start – that’s how I did!” says Imogen Grant.
