Veganuary Launches ‘Choose Chicken-Free Week’ with Restaurant, Brand, and Celebrity Support

New recipes, special offers, and menu items are being launched next week to celebrate Choose Chicken-Free Week 2024

(United States – April 23, 2024) – During Veganuary 2024, more people than ever before took the start of the new year as an opportunity to try out a plant-based diet for 31 days. The official 2024 participant survey* showed that most respondents (82%) plan to make significant diet changes after participating – either staying fully vegan or reducing animal products by at least 50%. To further accelerate this enthusiasm and increase motivation, Veganuary will launch the 2024 Choose Chicken-Free Week campaign from April 29 to May 5 – with enthusiastic support from brands and restaurants nationwide.

While concerns about avian flu and the sustainability of our food system continue to soar, Veganuary’s Choose Chicken-Free Week aims to show that it has never been easier to ditch chicken and eggs from our diets and replace them with plant-based alternatives. Coinciding with Respect for Chickens Day, the week will be filled with information and delicious food via special offers, tips, and an exclusive collection of recipes for preparing vegan egg and chicken alternatives that can be found on the Veganuary site.

“There are many simple and surprising ways to replace eggs in your favorite recipes. From everyday ingredients like banana and apple sauce to culinary innovations like aquafaba – the liquid from a can of chickpeas which can be whipped into a beautiful meringue – there’s an egg-free swap out there for everything from breakfast to dessert!” said Sandra Hungate, US Director at Veganuary.

Over 2,000 new vegan products and dishes were launched worldwide for Veganuary 2024, hitting store shelves and menus in January. But beyond the New Year, Veganuary is changing eating habits in the long term, both supporting individuals on their vegan journeys and working directly with brands, restaurants, and retailers to increase their plant-based offerings all year long.

“Veganuary is not a short-term phenomenon that comes to an end in January. With initiatives like #ChooseChickenFree, the Veganuary movement continues to grow as both individuals and  businesses embrace plant-based year-round. Over the summer, Veganuary will run additional campaigns such as Choose Fish-Free Week, BBQ Month, and Choose Dairy-Free Week, aimed at educating the public about the benefits of trying vegan,” said Hungate.

“It’s not just a nugget. It’s a soul taken. I didn’t give them life, so who am I to take it?” said Joseph Blair, NBA Assistant Coach (“The Vegan Coach“), who encourages his followers to participate in Veganuary’s #ChooseChickenFree campaign.
