I'm and old geezer now (75) but still active and healthy. I'm a journalist and film maker and back in the old days, when I was a meat-eating 50, I was commissioned by Juliet Gellatley (then of the Vegetarian Society but now founder & director of Viva!) to make a film on the vegetarian issues for young people (Food Without Fear). I can remember my business partner and I viewing horrific archive footage of pig farming and saying: "We can't be a party to this!" In fact we, and five other people who worked on that film, went vegetarian as a result.
Later I went vegan and became involved in Viva!’s work. Juliet Gellatley and I wrote several books on the issues and I authored the environmental report, Diet of Disaster. I have just published my first novel, POD, which draws together many of these themes in a real page-turner of a thriller – the animals are finally fighting back! (http://www.vivashop.org.uk/pod).
As one reviewer put it:
“Loved it, loved it!!! And I want to see it as a high-end movie!! Brilliant plot, lots of fantastic and unexpected storylines that grabbed and kept the interest; fast moving, great snappy dialogue and characterisation and people I believed in. Lots of issues, not just our disconnection with the planet but corruption of ‘the system,’ politics and the media as well. Plus, of course, a love story and a woman discovering her strengths. It’s a blinder!”
