Pret A Manger

Pret is a real game-changing restaurant and a popular choice at Veganuary HQ.

There are now three exclusively Veggie Prets in London and this year the company trialled veggie-only fridges to see whether this would boost or hinder sales of meat-free options. (It hindered, and so those fridges have gone.) The sandwiches are made fresh in Pret throughout the day so not all items will be available in all stores at all times but there are some truly delicious baguettes, wraps and flat breads available including Avocado & Chipotle Chickpeas, Butternut Squash Dhansak, and Avo, Olives & Toms. All their vegetarian soups are also vegan, and their Veggie Pots are delicious. Try the ever-popular Mac & Greens and the Beans & Avocado Power Pot.

Early risers will enjoy the hearty coconut porridge or perhaps the Acai & Almond Butter Breakfast Bowl. Pret doesn’t forget the sweet stuff – there is a choice of chocolate or mango chia pots, a Chocolate and Toasted Coconut Pot and a vegan brownie with gooey salted caramel. Heaven.

Breakfast

  • Pret’s Coconut Porridge
    Gluten-free oats and red quinoa simmered in coconut milk to create a rich, creamy porridge that’s dairy-free.
  • Acai & Almond Butter Bowl
    Sliced banana, gluten-free granola and acai berry puree, topped with shredded apple, pomegranate seeds and almond butter.
  • Mango & Banana Sunshine Bowl
    Blended mango and banana, with a splash of coconut milk and a dash of turmeric, topped with gluten-free granola, blueberries and coconut chips.
  • Dairy-Free Bircher
    Gluten-free granola and dairy-free coconut yoghurt alternative with apple, pomegranate seeds and berry compote.
  • Porridge Topping – Compote
    Fabulously fruity compote is made with strawberries, blackcurrants, blackberries, raspberries and redcurrants, slowly simmered in a pan.

Pret have chef’s monthly specials, and each store may vary, so be aware that some of these options may only be available for limited times.

Soups

  • Brilliant Broth Inclusion – Dried Chilli
    Dried Chilli flakes
  • Butternut Squash Dhansak (full-size and side soup available)
    Butternut squash dhansak with green lentils, mung beans and yellow split peas. Lightly spiced with turmeric, coriander and cumin with a hint of chilli.
  • Flatbread
    Great for dipping.
  • Fresh Ginger
    Finely shredded fresh ginger
  • Kale, Lentil & Roasted Spices (full-size and side soup available)
    A lightly spiced lentil soup with hints of cumin, coriander and smoked paprika. Simmered with red lentils, curly kale and lemon zest for a hearty vegan soup.
  • Lightly Spiced Carrot & Coriander (full-size and side soup available)
    Shredded carrots, potato and edamame beans with a delicate mix of spices including ginger, lemongrass and chilli, simmered in coconut cream for a rich finish.
  • Souper Tomato (full-size and side soup available)
    Chopped, super-ripe plum tomatoes simmered with crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, onion, celery, carrots and rich tomato puree. Finished with olive oil and oregano.
  • Vegan Chilli Soup (full-size and side soup available)
    A trio of beans (black turtle beans, red kidney beans and black eyed beans), peppers, sweetcorn, brown rice and quinoa cooked with ancho chilli, cocoa and jalapenos.
  • Vegetable Tagine (full-size and side soup available)
    Roasted courgettes and peppers cooked in vegetable stock with cumin, turmeric, red chilli and cinnamon. Served with tomatoes, chickpeas, buckwheat and red lentils.
  • Veggie Miso
    This new miso is now veggie with a traditional umami flavour and served with wakame. Make it spicy by adding fresh ginger or a shake of chilli flakes.

Sandwiches

  • Curried Chickpeas & Mango Chutney
    Lightly-spiced curried chickpeas combined with spring onions, raisins, red peppers and sweet mango chutney. Finished with a handful of spinach leaves and fresh coriander.
  • Super Greens & Reds
    Slices of avocado covered with tapenade made of roasted red peppers and cherry tomatoes. Finished with crunchy red pepper, kalamata olives and a generous handful of spinach.

Baguettes

  • Artichoke, Olives and Tapenade
    A vegan recipe using roasted red peppers and cherry tomatoes tapenade topped with Kalamata olives and grilled artichoke hearts. Finished off with fresh basil leaves.
  • Avo, Olives & Toms
    Sliced avocado with Kalamata olive tapenade, roasted tomatoes and a handful of peppery rocket. Finished with fresh basil leaves and a sprinkling of toasted pine nuts.

Wraps

  • Avocado & Chipotle Chickpeas Salad Wrap
    A vegan recipe with the flavours of South America: avocado, chipotle chickpeas and charred corn & black bean salsa topped with fresh coriander and mixed salad leaves.
  • Chakalaka Wrap
    Spicy African-inspired chakalaka beans with red pepper, roasted butternut squash and baby spinach. Finished with a dollop of dairy-free coconut yoghurt alternative.
  • Falafel, Avo & Chipotle Flat Bread
    Sweet potato falafel and avocado with a dollop of chipotle ketchup. Topped with pickled onions, red peppers, fresh coriander and charred corn & black bean salsa.
  • Grilled Artichokes & Olive Tapenade Flat Bread
    Grilled artichokes with rich Kalamata olive tapenade, humous, tomatoes and red pepper. Finished with a handful of rocket and whole-leaf basil.
  • Humous & Crunchy Veg Salad Wrap
    A generous dollop of Pret’s humous with pickled onions and fresh coriander. Topped with sliced red pepper, crunchy cucumber sticks and a handful of baby spinach.
  • Mexican Avocado Flatbread
    Refried black beans, avocado, a generous serving of charred corn & black bean salsa, tomatoes and fresh coriander in a Pret tortilla wrap.
  • Vegan Chilli Flat Bread
    This spicy vegan chilli is cooled with creamy avocado and charred corn & black bean salsa. Pickled onions provide a slightly sharp note while red peppers and mixed salad leaves add crunch and bounce.

Pret’s Hot

  • Avocado & Beans Toasted Tortilla
    Sliced avocado on a layer of red tapenade topped with whole-leaf basil and Pret’s baked beans. Finished with a squeeze of lemon juice and seasoning.
  • Pret’s Vegan Mac & Greens
    Tubetti rigati pasta and cauliflower florets mixed with vegan béchamel sauce. Pret then add spinach, parsley and finish with a sprinkling of breadcrumbs.
  • Vegan Ragu & Red Pepper Hot Wrap
    This vegan hot wrap combines chunky veg & lentil sauce with crunchy red peppers, roasted tomatoes, Kalamata olives and crispy onions.

Salads

  • 2oz Green Dressing
    A fresh and zingy green dressing packed with fresh herbs with a hint of chilli, soy and ginger
  • Falafel Mezze
    Sweet potato falafel with roasted butternut squash and a dollop of chunky humous. Served with pickled cabbage, sliced cucumber and a pot of ancho chilli dressing.
  • 1oz Ancho Chilli Dressing
    Ancho chilli is a dark, smoky chilli from Mexico that brings a great richness and depth to this new ancho chilli dressing. With a slight spice and a hint of sweetness, the dressing is made with Spanish roasted peppers, garlic, lime juice and zest and a good sprinkling of those deliciously rich dried ancho chilli flakes.
  • Sweet Potato Falafel & Smashed Beets Veggie Box
    Turmeric & sweet potato falafel, smashed beetroot humous, avocado and long-stem broccoli on a bed of brown & black rice. Finished with a pot of zingy green dressing.
  • Dijon Dressing (large & small)
    A well balanced French-inspired dressing using Dijon mustard, sherry vinegar with oil and seasoning. A classic dressing that is used in many of Pret’s classic salads.
  • Avo & Super-Greens Veggie Pot
    Avocado, peas, edamame and coriander with a sprinkling of sesame seeds and served with a pot of zingy green dressing.
  • 1OZ Green Dressing
    A fresh and zingy green dressing packed with fresh herbs with a hint of chilli, soy and ginger.

    Pret’s bananas are Rainforest Alliance Certified from Costa Rica.
  • Mango & Lime
    Hand prepared mango with a wedge of lime.

    Pineapple, melon, mango, apple, kiwis and blueberries.
  • Superfruit Salad
    Mango, kiwi, pomegranate seeds and blueberries.

Snacks

  • Apple and Almond Butter Bowl
    Pret have kept this recipe nice and simple: crisp, green apple wedges with a generous dollop of almond butter.
  • Chocolatey Dairy-Free Coconut Bite
    Crushed coconut coated in dark chocolate.
  • Crisped Kale
    With rosemary and cold-pressed olive oil.
  • Naked Nuts
    A little bag of mixed nuts.
  • Pret A Mango
    A little bag of chopped, dried mango.
  • Roasted Coconut Chips
    This little bag is full of coconut chips. They’ve been gently toasted but that’s it – there’s no added salt, sugar or flavourings. Just coconut.
  • Rock Salt Popcorn
    Passionately popped, naturally light.
  • Sea Salt & Cider Vinegar Crisps
    Hand cooked potato crisps (with the skin on for extra flavour) seasoned with sea salt and cider vinegar.

    A rich dessert of dark chocolate and coconut ganache topped with roasted coconut chips.
  • Dark Chocolate & Almond Butter Cookie
    with a little sea salt.
  • Mango Chia Pot
    Dairy-free coconut yoghurt alternative with chia seeds, diced mango, pomegranate seeds and a dash of apple juice.

There are also various hot and cold drinks, including the new Golden Turmeric, and a selection of juices and smoothies. Soya milk available upon request.
