In a friendly New Year’s message recorded today, the wildlife TV presenter and campaigner extends a personal invitation to his colleague, TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson who suffered a heart attack earlier this year, to join millions of people trying a plant-based diet this January with Veganuary. Chris even offers to personally mentor Jeremy and have him over to try his partner Charlotte’s ‘Butter Tofu’ dish.
Clarkson, who has been quite outspoken on vegan issues in the past, has recently expressed unease about sending his farmed animals to slaughter. This, combined with his recent health problems, makes Veganuary a great opportunity for him to help both his heart and his conscience posits Packham.
Chris himself took part in Veganuary in January 2019 and became an Ambassador for the charity later that year. Other high-profile Veganuary alumni include rock legend Brian May, TV presenter Jasmine Harman, ‘dragon’ Deborah Meaden, Eastender’s Kellie Bright and actor Peter Egan, all of whom continue to support the charity.
Last year, around 25 million people took part in Veganuary globally* and 2025 is set to be even bigger as the charity expands its global presence with new Veganuary campaigns in Malaysia, Peru and Canada. From humble beginnings on a kitchen table in Yorkshire, the global Veganuary phenomenon now includes campaigns in 20 countries and has had participants from every country in the world except North Korea.
