In 2012 Philip Wollen became an honorary fellow at the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics, based on the work he has done through an organisation he set up called The Kindness Trust.
The trust is a global initiative whose mission statement is “to promote kindness towards all other living beings and enshrine it as a recognisable trait in the Australian character and culture”. The Trust emphasises ethics, compassion and co-operation, and opposes cruelty to humans and non-human animals.
Previously Philip Wollen was Vice President at Citibank and a general manager at Citicorp. In 2005 he received the Medal of the Order of Australia and in 2007 he won the Australian of the Year (Victoria) award.
In 2012, Philip Wollen famously took part at the Animals Should Be Off The Menu debate at the St James Ethics and the Wheeler Centre and his speech has been widely shared by the Animal Rights community.
