Anna Solaiman has just become PETA's Sexiest Vegan UK Female 2015. A British born Bangladeshi living in London, she has loved animals from a young age. Here's her story:
Becoming vegan has been such a journey for me. I first started out a vegetarian thinking that was enough to be saving animals. But looking deeper into the dairy and egg industries made me realise that if I was truly doing it for the animals, I had to be vegan.
It really does wake you up into realising how much food and even things like beauty products and cosmetics contain animal ingredients once you start reading labels.
The cruelty in the beauty industry baffled me. Why should a living being be harmed just to look good when there are SO many products on the market that are cruelty free and do the job just as well?
My views on the world and life changed a lot but it was something that stayed quite personal and something I never talked about.
Overtime this has changed and I have learnt that animals do not have a voice and it is a duty as a compassionate human to speak out where you can in order to be a voice for the animals.
Animals think, feel and love just like we do and choosing a select few to hug as pets and others to slaughter and eat just doesn’t make any sense. Once you make that connection everything falls into place. No suffering is worth it.
Yes the vegan diet can do wonders for your health and body and overall well being, but this combined with a compassionate lifestyle is truly what will leave you with a clean heart and a happy guiltless life.
And hey, vegans are the sexiest people in the world 😉
