Tempeh bacon avocado toast

Serves 2 – 3


  1. For the Tempeh Bacon:
  2. 1 block Plant Power Original Tempeh
  3. 2 tbsp tamari
  4. 1 tbsp maple syrup
  5. ½ -1 tsp liquid smoke (depends on taste, use more if you like a very smoky flavour)
  6. 1 tbsp oil for frying
  7. To serve
  8. Avocado
  9. Bread
  10. Toasted seeds (optional)


  1. Slice tempeh into thin 0.5 – 1cm slices.
  2. Heat a frying pan and add the oil. Once the oil is hot, add the tamari, maple syrup and liquid smoke. Fry the tempeh strips on each side for about 2 to 3 minutes, ensuring both sides are lightly browned, turning every so often until the edges look caramelized.
  3. Whilst the tempeh is frying, mash an avocado until smooth and toast the bread.
  4. Add a thick layer of smashed avocado to the toast and then add the tempeh bacon on top. Sprinkle over the toasted seeds.
