Studies have found that people following a plant-based diet rich in fruit, veg, legumes, whole grains and nuts had a significantly lower risk of developing heart disease than those following other diets.
Similar studies have shown a link to lowered risks of developing breast cancer, aggressive forms of prostate cancer and digestive system cancers including pancreatic, colon and rectal cancers too.
Added to this, one study of more than 200,000 people found that those who adhered to a healthy plant-based eating pattern had a 34% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes than those who followed unhealthy, non-plant-based diets.
A balanced plant-based diet will likely add to your fiber intake too – a great way of supporting digestion and energy levels!
Yes, we believe that antibiotic resistance is a global health threat. The heavy use of medically important antibiotics in factory farmed animals is a major cause. Which is why we recommend people try vegan!
Antibiotics are routinely used in intensive farming systems to prevent and treat infections and can also be used in animal feed to increase growth. Studies have estimated that 73% of all antibiotics sold globally are used in animals raised for food.
You’re right. Of course we would advocate for people to try veganism! But it’s not just us saying that.
The American Academy of Nutrition and Dietics state that a vegan diet can be nutritionally adequate and “can offer long-term health benefits“.
The Office of Health Economics suggests that if everyone in England switched to a vegan diet, the health benefits would be so substantial it would save the NHS around £6.7 billion per year.
