If you’ve seen Jared Leto in the Dallas Buyers Club role that won him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, you’d be forgiven for doubting the health benefits of a vegan diet! But you’d be wrong.
Leto fasted for a month to achieve the emaciated figure of a transsexual AIDS sufferer, but in real life he credits plenty of rest and a low-fat vegan lifestyle as the reason for his trim figure and youthful appearance. “I’m pretty healthy so I think that helps a lot. I’ve been that way for a long time – 20 solid years of eating vegetarian/vegan and taking care of myself. That probably helps the preservation process.” he told GQ magazine in 2013.
The 46 year old (that’s right, 46) certainly doesn’t lack for energy, combining acting with fronting his band 30 Seconds to Mars. Leto turned vegetarian in his teens and gave up dairy not long after that when found out about the presence of pus in dairy products, a factor he still quotes when questioned about his lifestyle choices.
2014 was a bonus year for Jared as, in addition to taking home the Oscar, he was awarded the accolade of PETA’s Sexiest Vegan.
