Jessica Chastain is a Golden Globe and Academy Award nominee, film producer and vegan.
The actress is well-known on social media for her animal advocacy interventions – she has previously promoted cruelty-free products, animal shelter adoptions and wildlife sanctuaries across her considerable platforms. Similarly, she regular talks about the benefits of vegaism to her followers – both from a health and taste-bud perspective.
Chastain is one of an increasing number of Hollywood superstars and celebrities who have spoken of how eschewing animal products has boosted their overall well-being. In a interview with W Magazine, the Californian recalls how prior to veganism: “I was really low on energy… my cholesterol was very high and the doctor wanted to put me on medicine.”
Two weeks into a vegan food program, she felt huge improvements due to her dietary change, noting that she
immediately… had more energy than I’d ever had in my life.
Betraying the myth that plant-based food is bland, or that vegans miss out on treats, Chastain wrote to her two million Instagram followers:
Sundays are for vegan pancakes
Among the replies to the recipe, fellow Hollywood superstar Jennifer Garner was one of the many who appeared to be inspired by Chastain’s invitation to indulge in vegan delight. The 30 Going on 30 star wrote: “Beautiful—we will try these! X.”
Chastain has also shared a number of relatable anecdotes that many fellow vegans will appreciate. On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Chastain stated that she had difficulties in explaining her plant-based diet to her in-laws – when explaining she couldn’t eat dairy, her mother-in-law replied: “No problem, we have fish”. One of the many vegans who can relate to this is Ariana Grande who has also spoken of her difficulties embracing a plant-based lifestyle in an Italian household.
On stage and screen, Chastain has developed a reputation as a powerful and versatile performer – since studying at Julliard, Chastain has appeared on stage in plays by Oscar Wilde, Anton Checkhov and William Shakespeare. On the big screen, the actress has wowed critics with her performances in The Tree of Life, Interstellar and Molly’s Game. She has received Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actress in the civil rights drama The Help, and for Best Actress in Zero Dark Thirty.
