Miley Cyrus was a teen idol that grew up in the spotlight as Hannah Montana and has blossomed into adulthood as an outrageous and outspoken vegan.
Born in 1992, her father is singer Billy Ray Cyrus, who also starred alongside her in Hannah Montana. The musical comedy series aired on the Disney Channel and propelled Miley to fame for both her singing and acting talents. Hannah Montana was also made into a film, and Cyrus continued to act in movies as her pop career took off with songs such as the raunchy Wrecking Ball.
Cyrus is also famed for her charity work and has supported many good causes. She has sung on charity tracks and appeared at fundraising concerts. She also runs the charity Happy Hippie Foundation whose “mission is to rally young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBTQ youth and other vulnerable populations.”
It was only natural that her compassion should spread to animals. Having been vegan since 2014, a year later she commented in an article for Paper magazine that she was ready to become accountable and a role model for veganism.
The star has a love of animals and was pushed to become vegan after coyotes killed her beloved dog. She has also featured in some high-profile work for Peta, who asked:
Is Miley Cyrus the Veganest Vegan to Ever Vegan?
Given her pedigree, we think there is a strong possibility she just maybe at the very least the “veganest” pop star to have graced the music charts.
Miley has also promoted veganism in the world of fashion and has worn outfits by cruelty-free designer Stella McCartney. Cyrus was quoted as saying:
There doesn’t have to be torture in fabulous fashion.
Quite right too, she also has the Vegan Society’s sunflower logo tattooed on her and has strongly promoted vegan footwear.
She is an active user of social media, often showing alternatives to animal products and promoting the wide-range of vegan food available. She has use captions such as:
So many good plants/fruits/veggies to eat you ain’t gottttta eat dead animals!
The star is also not afraid of attacking cruelty in a blunt and forthright manner when she sees it. However, it is her promotion of veganism as a glamorous and “cool” lifestyle to her legions of fans for which she is best known.
She said on Instagram:
There is nothing more beautiful than eating a meat-free, gluten-free, dairy-free cheeseburger in the sunset.
We rather Like Miley’s romantic portrait of cruelty-free food.
